Join us for a casual meet-up for tweens & teens interested in the tabletop card game Magic: The Gathering

Curious about learning how to play? Know how it works but looking for other players? Hoping to trade cards, or get help building a deck?
All are welcome!

Bring your own cards to use if you have them, or if you don't have any - that's ok - Forbes will provide pre-made decks to use at the library. And we also have free cards to take and use for your own deck building or collecting!

This program is for ages 10+ and meets weekly, Wednesdays from 3:45-5:00 pm in the Community Room (tables are generally set up by 3:30 for folks eager to get games going!)

Any questions, please email jvrysen@forbeslibrary.org

Drop in for part or all of these casual chess meets, every Wednesday from 5:30-7:30pm on the Mezzanine.

All experience levels welcome. Please bring your own set if you have one.

*Please note: Juggling meetups in October onward are cancelled. Instructor Joseph looks forward to juggling with you again in a future season!*

Come practice the fundamentals of juggling in a relaxed, supportive environment! This beginner-friendly meetup covers basic patterns, hand-eye coordination techniques, and fun skill-building exercises. The space also welcomes more advanced jugglers, offering opportunities to explore new tricks, share techniques, and connect with others.

Everyone is encouraged to be both a teacher and a student—this is a space to build community through play, learning, and collaboration. Led by juggling instructor Joseph Goldin.

Some juggling balls will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you have them.

Thank you to sponsors: Gateway Fiber and A2Z Science & Toys

Ukulele Strum Group is a community ukulele club, part of the larger Pioneer Valley Ukulele Community (Meetup). We meet weekly at Forbes Library in Northampton to sing and play together just for the fun and joy of it, but also to improve our skills. We are ukulele enthusiasts of all levels of playing experience, including beginners. And we always welcome new members to play, sing, or just watch and listen.

Find out more about our group on our Meet-Up page.

Join us for a chat in the Youth Programming Room and pick next month's book! We'll be reading Encore! by Miles Toriko Burks. From the publisher:

"Senior year is in full swing, and Clay's determined to have a good year filled with friends, theater dreams, and newfound confidence. But when his ex–best friend, Aron, suddenly reappears in his life—and his theater class—it throws a wrench in all of Clay's plans. Annoyingly, the two are paired up during an improv exercise, and being vulnerable together onstage swirls up all sorts of old, complicated feelings. Even more annoyingly, Aron is acting like there's nothing weird or confusing about being back in each other's orbits again. Which is ironic, since Aron was the one who ghosted Clay in the first place.

As their class assignment continues and they spend more and more time together, Clay isn't sure he can keep his old feelings buried. But can he trust Aron again, after everything they've been through?"

Does your pet want to get in the Halloween spirit but have nowhere to show it off? Join our Halloween Pet Parade on the library lawn! We will take a brief stroll around the lawn, then each pet will have their moment of fame on the Hess Performance Stage. All pets are welcome: furry, fuzzy, frizzy, scaly, and more!

Prizes will be available for:

• Most Creative Costume
• Scariest Costume
• Best Literary Costume
• Best Pet/Human Partner Costumes

No preregistration required. When you arrive with your pet, please stop by the check-in table and a staff member will direct you.

Human costumes are not required but joyfully encouraged. (Are you a human without a pet? Come to the pet parade and cheer on your animal neighbors!)

Safety guidelines: Please read the following so we can have a safe and fun event for all.

• Well-behaved pets and owners are welcome to participate. If attending an event with many animals and humans will be stressful to your pet, please consider staying home for your pet's sake.
• All types of pets welcome, as long as they can walk or be safely transported around the lawn.
• Pets must be on leash (or in a stroller, backpack, cage, etc.) at all times - no pets wandering around on their own, please.
• Owners are responsible for keeping their pets under control at all times. If a pet is behaving in a way that endangers itself, other pets, or the humans around them, staff may ask the owner and pet to leave.
• Please bring waste bags to pick up after your pet, if needed.

Weather: This event will take place outdoors on the library lawn. In the event of bad weather, we will unfortunately cancel this event. Please check back here or visit our social media the morning of the event for any weather-related cancellations. (If the event is cancelled due to weather, please snap a photo of your pet and share it with us on social media - or by email to pcharry@forbeslibrary.org - so we can compile a virtual "parade".)

Please note: Service animals are welcome inside the library, but non-service animals must remain outside. If you need to go inside briefly, please see a staff member at the parade and they will happily watch your pet for a few minutes.
