Title: Screening of "Surviving October 7th"
From: 5:00pm Thursday, January 2, 2025
To: 8:00pm Thursday, January 2, 2025
Location: Community Room
Categories: Community-Led Programs, Film
Description:

The 90-minute documentary We Will Dance Again: Surviving October 7th, by Yariv Mozer is a harrowing glimpse into the brutal assault on partygoers at the Nova Music Festival - one of the sites in Israel attacked by Hamas on October 7, 2023. This film focuses on events at Nova, features mobile phone footage captured by survivors and presents a minute-by-minute account of the Hamas attack. It includes personal stories and shows how a celebration of life turned into a nightmare as festival goers had to make choices that would determine whether they lived or died. The film does not discuss the context of the wider conflict or the delayed response from Israeli authorities. The unflinching, exhaustive and moving movie shines a light on the experience of the dancers at the Nova music festival that day.

This film is graphic and disturbing, so we are creating a container to watch it together. We will gather for the evening at 5:15pm. At 5:30 we will have a brief discussion facilitated by a trauma expert who will help us keep a safe space. The movie will start at 5:50 and should end at 7:20, at which time we will provide additional support to process and listen to music specially curated to move us to dance as a form of release.

This movie falls on the 8th day of Chanukah, which is commonly known as Zot Chanukah. As we light the last candle the night before, the eighth and final day of Hanukkah commemorates the miracle and symbolizes our survival. Please come to keep the light alive in all of us.

As part of the event we are gathering donations for The Tribe of Nova Foundation to support long-term trauma recovery for survivors and the bereaved families.

Title: "N'AP Boule (Through the Barricades)" - Film Screening and Discussion
From: 6:30pm Thursday, January 30, 2025
To: 7:30pm Thursday, January 30, 2025
Location: Coolidge Museum

Description:

Join us for a screening and discussion of the film "N'AP Boule (Through the Barricades)" by Alexandrine Benjamin.

Film synopsis: In the midst of the treacherous social protests that have paralyzed Haiti for months, a modest couple must face blocked roads and murderous gangs in the hope of finding a place to give birth safely.

About the filmmaker: Alexandrine Benjamin is a Haitian filmmaker, and holds a master's degree in film production from the University of Greenwich in England. Her works mostly focus on social justice issues such as human rights, gender violence, and  insecurity. She recently directed "N'Ap Boule," an award-winning short film that tells the heartbreaking story of a Haitian pregnant couple looking for a safe place to give birth in the midst of the Haitian socio-political movement “peyilòk”. For more than five years, Ms. Benjamin acted as project manager for Lakou Kajou, an engaging media program produced by the small American media Blue Butterfly which raises awareness among Haitian children about literacy and maths, but more importantly about how to solve problems. The filmmaker is now producing her first feature film “O Negatif,” promoting the full emancipation and inclusion of people living with HIV around the world. Alexandrine believes that education is the path to a better future for her home country, Haiti; and if her art can be a tool to this end, it is the way to go.
